Welcome to our first blog update here on the website.
Up until now we’ve relied on the website pulling our news from Facebook and Twitter, but we thought it’d be nice to have a dedicated blog for the website where we could go into a bit more detail on how things are going for us. So here goes…!
What can we say – it’s been an amazing year. In many ways, it’s all a bit surreal for us. Just over 12 months ago, we were sat in The Swan in Sidmouth during the 2012 Folk Week and we sang in public as a duo for the first time (in fact…it was the first time Jon had ever played the uke in public!). Fast-forward from there to now – having just finished the most amazing summer, winning the Break-Through Music Award, playing at places like Larmer Tree and Purbeck Folk Festival to some incredible audiences – it’s just been a fantastic experience; we’re absolutely loving it! We’ve got to say a huge thanks to the support we’ve had from so many local music organisers – without it, there’s no way we’d have been able to come so far in such a short space of time.
What now, then? Well – we’re planning on having a pretty quiet September and October. After a frenetic summer of gigs, we’re going to take some time to finish a few new songs that have been knocking around in the wings for a while, but we’re also looking forward to revisiting and re-polishing some older songs we’ve not played in a while. Now the festival season is nearly at an end – it’ll be great to start visiting some of the local clubs again. Can’t wait to head on over to Ringwood Folk Club with Rod and the gang for one of their singarounds! It feels like an age since we last went to one of those!
And…(drum roll please) we’re starting to think about our next CD. It’s going to be a full album this time. We’re knocking around a few ideas for tracks listings and we think we might almost have a title we can both agree on! Best not say anything yet, though – we’re fickle creatures, so we might change our minds…! We’ve decided to go down a slightly different route for this recording – we’ve got some portable studio gear and if all goes well - we’re hoping to lock ourselves away at Jon’s sister’s cottage in Wales sometime between now and Christmas to lay the majority of tracks down. It’s such a beautiful, tranquil place – we’re positive it’ll inspire something special.
Anyway – this seems about the right length for a blog entry!
We hope you’ve all enjoyed the summer as much as we have – and we look forward to seeing you out and about later on in the Autumn.
