We hope this blog finds you well and having a brilliant start to 2017. This is our first news update of this year, and boy have we got some exciting stuff to share with you!
BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Nomination
So, whilst we were enjoying some R&R in Colombia over the last couple of weeks, word reached us from the team at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show that we'd been nominated for the 2017 'Horizon' Award - for best emerging artist over the last 12 months. The award is voted for by over 150 panel members from all areas of the UK folk scene, so we're pretty humbled to have been shortlisted along with only three other acts.
A BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nomination is something that we've dreamed of and worked towards for the last 5 years - and to have finally achieved that goal is pretty overwhelming to be honest!
Us finding out the news at temporary Ninebarrow HQ in Cartagena!
As far as we're concerned, getting the nomination is reward enough! But...gosh. Wouldn't it be lovely to win?! :) We're up against some very tough competition though. The awards ceremony is taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 5th April - and we'll be there to experience the glitz and the glamour of our very first awards ceremony! If you want to share the moment with us - it'll be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and will also be available in full as a televised show on the iPlayer and Red Button shortly afterwards. AND - if you want to go one step further, you can even come along, as tickets have already gone on sale to the general public and they're available here. Whichever method works for you, we'd love to have you along for the ride! :)
The final round of voting is taking place as we speak. NOTHING has been decided yet. If you want to help us raise our profile a little bit more between now and the closing date at the end of February - why not tweet about us and the awards, tagging @BBCRadio2 and using the hashtag #r2folkawards!
BBC Radio 2 Folk Show Live Session
And so - we thought this month had probably reached its peak with that little piece of news. But then...we received an email inviting us to play LIVE on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show on the 8th March!! Cue further collective Ninebarrow jumping for joy! :) This is just about as big and as nerve-wracking as it gets! Again - we'd absolutely love it if you could tune in. It'll be lovely knowing we've got some friendly ears out there listening. The show goes out live from 7pm on Wednesday 8th March. And once more - if you're an avid Twitter user - why not let us know you're listening using@ninebarrow, @BBCRadio2 and #folkshow. Tweets are often read out on air, so you might even get yourself included in the show too! :)
So aside from all this excitement, have we got a busy 2017 coming up! As ever, our most imminent concerts can be found over at our gigs page.
For our home-fans in Poole, we've just announced that we'll be returning to the beautiful St Nicholas' Church in Studland, where so many of you joined us last June. Tickets for our return concert this May are available now by clicking the image below.
So that's it for now! But we think it's safe to say that we couldn't have asked for a better start to 2017 - and none of it would be possible without all you lovely lot!
Thanks so much for your continued support.
All the best,
